FINISHED! A baby beanie - the last of the holiday knitting..

I went back to work yesterday after 6 weeks off.  I was full of dread but in fact it was nice to be back.  It was only day one though when the office is full of chatter and social catchups and many people including big bosses don't know yet that your are back... today will probably be different.

UntitledJust before work, I finished this wonky little baby beanie, which I started for the plane trip back. I used a combination of the bamboo wool I bought at La Droguerie.  This is SOOO soft, a bit wonky, but soft. It will be sent off to the latest little baby boy today.

I really like working on those little double pointed needles.  I really do.  But  now I have to extend myself and get some new tricks in my bag.  Socks are still on my 'to do' list!  Anyone know of a super simple 'sock-a-long'!?

My pursuit of sock knitting however might be momentarily waylaid as I spotted this pattern in the latest issue of Frankie magazine.

Clearly I'm a sucker for styling as I love this.  And it all looks completely doable.  I love the shrug but would it be a bit constrictive, like a straightjcket?  How lovely does the rolled neck jumper look for a Canberra winter.  MMmmm.. I could be tempted.

  1. Love your little beanie!

I made a little capelet/shrug like the one you pictured years ago, and you're right: it was constrictive! They are super cute though!

  3. The beanie is so cute! I've never heard of bamboo wool. The shrug reminds me of the infinity wrap that I live in during the winter. It's like the shrug but without the neck and in a very chunky knit. It keeps you warm, but your arms are free - perfect for when I get to work from home. The roll-neck jumper (turtle-neck sweater to me) looks very toasty. How cold does it get in the winter in Canberra?

  4. Good advice... perhaps I'll think about it a bit more :)

  5. Thanks Shar. It's cold here in the morning, maybe into the minuses, but usually it's pretty sunny during the day. I don't normally find I need big jumpers.. but perhaps if it's fashionable enough!?

  6. I think you should go for it! How cool (no pun intended) to knit a sweater. If I ever get good at this sewing thing maybe I'll branch out and try to knit a scarf. Different topic, but I took the lining out of my denim Charlotte - you were totally right (please feel free to say 'I told you so')!.

  7. Really? How come? You know I'm thinking of making another Charlotte skirt! It's such a great style for me for work that I'm pretty tempted. Are you doing MMMay13?

  8. It wasn't hanging right and I read kbenco's post about how you shouldn't put a lining without stretch under a stretch fabric. Then I remembered you mentioning that you didn't think denim needed a lining. Sure enough the skirt hangs and moves much better without it. I seem to be doing everything twice lately! I wimped out on MMM13. I felt like I would never have 'full' outfits and have to post 'I made the top, but the pants are RTW'. If Zoe does it next year I'm in for sure. Did you see Tilly's pencil skirt she just posted? A take on that for the Charlotte would look great. I love that pattern too and can't wait for the jacket to come out.

  9. Oh none of my outfits are full.. there is always something RTW in there. Yes, I love that skirt and asked whether she would be putting that pattern up for sale. I can' wait as well for the jacket :)
