This was my first foray into the world of
Sinbad & Sailor patterns. All the patterns are really cute but this is their latest release, the O'keefe skirt and needing some new work skirts in my wardrobe was taken by the pleating and pocket on one side.
This is a relatively quick and easy make. Sometime ago I had printed, taped and cut the pattern pieces out. Friday night I cut the fabric and threaded the machines and then Sunday,over about 3 hours I made it up. I found the skirt too short for the style I like to wear to work so ended up attaching a 4 inch panel at the bottom, a la the moss skirt. Hindsight says I should have just lengthened the skirt in the first place, but the panel works ok. It's not perfect but it is ok.
I didn't line the skirt either. The fabric I bought at
Tessuti is a heavy navy twill (42% cotton and 58% polyamide) from Germany. It has a slight shiny and papery (?) feel to it and I felt like it didn't really need lining... or maybe I was just being lazy.
Despite the pleating on one side, it is reasonably fitted. I made the size 10 right out of the packet without any adjustments (except for the length). The fit is good. The waist is a teensy bit tight, but I'm hoping to squeeze into it regardless and with the onset of Spring hope for a little bit of weight loss around that area :)
Overall I think it will get some good wear to work during Spring and Summer and the pleated pocket on one side? Great! It is a lovely design feature and is the perfect size for my hand.
Again - just lovely - and I don't think lining the skirt would have made a difference.
ReplyDeleteI love the pleat/pocket detail on this! I like the band too - it just gives it something extra. I really need some basic skirts in my wardrobe. So many patterns....so little time! If you have to lose weight, then I'm in trouble!

ReplyDeleteThanks Zo. In stockings the fabric is fine and doesn't appear to stick or be too elastic. So far so good against bare legs although it hasn't really been tested. It is pretty soft though and not rough although we'll see in summer!

ReplyDeleteThis is a really classy pattern, a simple detail and side pocket. Love the fabric choice and the hem panel gives it a little something extra. Pulling it off like a star!
ReplyDeleteI really like the skirt too. I flicked across to their website and looked at the other patterns. Now that Spring seems to be springing in Canberra, i am totally tempted by the t-shirt and shorts patterns...they are really cute together!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the wrap waistband. I can never get the edge to look perfectly square on those. Where did you get the leather bracelet you're wearing? I really like it and haven't seen anything like it before.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, I'm hopeless at squaring them up. The leather bracelet is actually my watch. It's a double wrap watch by Hermes. I looooove it. The watch face is just wrapped to the back in the photo.

I was at Liberty in London and thought of you constantly. I saw the little acrobats, fabric and all. Didn´t buy anything but it was like sewing Disneyland!

All my time is currently spent on making my wedding dress (i am a beginner..what was i thinking?!) and general wedding craftiness. Having no time to blog doesn't stop me spending too much time reading others though...hmmmm....!
