FINISHED! O'Keefe skirt in the Spring



Here is my second Sinbad and Sailor O'Keefe skirt made, of course, with the same fabric as my Tessuti Tokyo Flower Show Jacket.  The fabric hides the details of the pattern, which is a bit of a shame.

The pattern sews up well, although this time around I managed to put the pleats and the pocket on the wrong side.  Mmm.  Don't ask my how. I looked at the pattern placement ten times I'm sure.

The main problem is the invisible zipper. It was perfect, it really was.. except up the top as I sewed it over the waistband seams I veered too close to the zipper and as a result it wouldn't close. Urgggh. One of the little teeth looked dodgy but instead of pulling the whole thing out (I didn't have another invisible zipper) I only unpicked the top bit.  I then was zipper shy so sewed too far from the zipper so now it looks a little bit ugly as it's not a perfectly 'invisible zippee' up there.  I should have unpicked it again, but couldn't bring myself to.  I did redeem myself a little bit by sewing the waistband by hand rather than making anymore mess with it.

So this is my 'what's to be done face'.  I wore it to work today and it was good, but I strategically had my shirt hanging a little bit down to cover up my zipper.  I could just pretend there's no problem or I could fix it or I could take it to an alteration place!

 Would it be bad to take it to someone else to fix!?

    well, it's STUNNING, so just keep wearing it till you decide what to do! and if having someone else fix it means wearing it more, i would run to my local tailor right this minute.

    I see no shame in taking it to someone else!! It is a BEAUTIFUL skirt! Seriously, that fabric is just spring heaven!

    Take it to someone else! There is always a moment of our sewing selves when we just can't handle it! And more beautiful spring patterns! Oh, I wish I moved to Australia!

    I love this! and I really really love the jacket too (I'm behind in commenting). There's no shame in taking it to an alteration place - esp since this looks like a keeper!

    I have had the same thought when something didn't turn out quite as planned! I often find that I notice every little mistake I make but, if someone else boggled something, it wouldn't bother me a bit. Ready made garments are FULL of problems but we wear them and don't seem to mind much. Treat yourself to some tailoring if you like. Whatever gets that skirt out of your closet and frequently worn is good - it looks lovely on you and it would be a shame not to wear it.

    I don´t see a single fault in that skirt, none to be noticed. But, of course if you "know" there is something not-perfect, you just keep thinking about it...I think you should take it wherever it needs to go! this skirt is too pretty to be hanging in the closet

    Hmmm...dilemma. My mom would tell me to pick it out and redo it for the self satisfaction but I would want to take it to someone else... I'm no help. Gorgeous skirt though! Love love love!If you ever want to bin it,my address is.....I know a good tailor...LOL!

    Pretty skirt, it looks great with the top! I personally would not worry about that minor detail with the zip, as I've seen RTW clothes with zips that were only half stitched!

    Very pretty skirt! I am already invisible zipper shy only having tried to insert them on practice fabric, so I say good job for perfection except for the little bit at the top.

    This is all kinds of rad! I have a skirt with a similar problem from August 2012 I haven't fixed yet. It just sits there and haunts me. Fail!

    You are like me with zips. I am happy to unpick it the first time but if I'm not happy a second time I think... 'well this is as good as it is going to get!'. Love the skirt.

    Such a shame. Just take it to the professionals.... and when you go to pick it up ask what they did to fix it. The fabric works so well with this pattern.

    I agree, I would love to see a picture of the jacket and skirt together! Such gorgeous fabric. And I vote for taking it to a professional if you feel like it! Maybe they'll have some awesome tips on zipper insertion that you can share with us :)
