With enormous thanks to Tilly's fabulous pattern and super duper detailed tutorials (of which I used every single one), I present my first Mathilde blouse!!!! What a great pattern.
The fabric is the Liberty of London I bought the other day from Addicted to Fabric. It is Archipelago A from the Liberty Art Spring Summer 2013 Tresco range and you can read more about it in my Library of Liberty. The fabric is so gorgeous. I had some lovely comments both on the top and on the fabric when I wore it to work today. I just love those sneaky little statues hiding in the garden.Gathering, pintucks and buttons... These were all a little bit of a stretch for me, but they turned out fine. The fabric fortunately hides any little imperfections. Buttons no longer seem to be so frightening! I probably should have thought a bit more about the pattern placement on the front bodice (both pieces now seem a bit matchy matchy - but I think that's just being picky).
I wore it today with jeans (because it's Friday) but next week I'll wear it with my grey skirt all tucked in. I'm so in love with this top that I'll probably post some photos then as well.
Your Mathilde looks amazing and very nicely sewn! The fit looks great too, did you have to change anything or was it fine without adjustments? I'm thinking about this pattern myself and yours is inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you did Shar because I think it will look great - and a perfect match for a Charlotte skirt. I was a bit daunted by the pintucks and all those buttons, but in fact it was quite fun to sew! Can't wait to see your version.
ReplyDeletePretty, cool blouses like these are perfect for summer. Love the fabric choice!
ReplyDeleteThis looks absolutely smashing! The pin tucks look super neat and epic work on the buttons. Loving the Liberty print for this :)
ReplyDeletePlease, don't mention the dress...*hysterical*
ReplyDeleteWoops, sorry :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I really recommend it (in Liberty!!)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love. The fabric is a piece of romantic art. threadnoir.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for popping by. The fabric is something else isn't it. It's just so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteoh wow! this is so beautiful - the perfect pattern for this print, I think. And now I've seen it sewn up, I think I might need to treat myself to some of this Liberty too! This blouse looks like it will go with everything!
ReplyDeleteShivani, from one Liberty lover to another, this is a beautiful piece of fabric design. I think you should definitely treat yourself. This does go with everything and I am going to wear this tomorrow all tucked up in a skirt.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this. I was trying to picture whether or not the blouse was 'my style' and yours showed me a wearable and gorgeous version!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Morgan. Re the fitting, I didn’t have to change anything. I just sewed up a straight 3. For a guide, my measurements sat me Bust 2 - 3, Waist 2-3 and hip 1. I ummed and aahed but decided to make up a 3. It is a teensy tiny bit big across the shoulders but nothing that I would change.
ReplyDeleteThis is really stunning, Kirsty!! I have been on the fence about Mathilde but you are certainly changing my mind. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteYour blouse is really pretty. I am starting to think about my autumn wardrobe and a blouse like this would slot in nicely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Inna, Don't say I didn't warn you with the photos :) The material is really lovely. How is your dress coming along?
ReplyDeleteSeeing your version just made me buy the pattern (I need the buttonhole and pintuck practice, right?). Love, love, love the fabric. It's no wonder you got so many compliments!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! That liberty fabric was a great choice! x
ReplyDeleteThanks Stevie. Liberty has such a nice feel to it so it also has the perfect drape.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's beautiful! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gail.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Tilly. It's all your pattern! I'll pop you an email now. :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Your blouse is beyond pretty! No wonder you get compliments!
ReplyDeleteThanks Merch!
ReplyDeleteYour top is really pretty. I have been thinking about my autumn wardrobe and this top would slot in nicely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea. It is a beautiul pattern so I would definitely recommend it.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is sooooo pretty! LOVE it! x
ReplyDeletePS. I want to ask you a favour - can you drop me a line? http://www.tillyandthebuttons.com/p/contact.html
ReplyDeleteKirsty, it looks lovely on you! I have to say that colors of the fabric work so well with your hair ^^ No surprise you get so many compliments! Seriously, don't hesitate to post the pictures when you'd wear the blouse with a skirt!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely! And I have to say I'm really loving the lush green backgrounds of your Australian summer, too - a real antidote to my grey Belgian February. That fabric suits you AND your surroundings perfectly!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. It won't be long here before the leaves start to turn. (Oh and we will be in France in 3 weeks time so hopefully Spring starts to come soon over there!).
